The Going Coastal Music and Musicians page is to highlight the distinct voices found throughout BC's Sunshine Coast. The range of talents in orchestral, choral, and of course jazz is easily seen at the variety of musical events held throughout the coast, but for those who can't make it here just yet we have some available CDs listed here with prices, locations, and contact information. Of course musicians have a tendency to roam, so if anyone is releasing a new album and we haven't listed it yet please feel free to contact us at goingcoastal@telus.com so we can let the rest of the world know about these auditory goodies!

Norine Braun - Now & Zen
Poet/singer/songwriter Norine Braun reaches deep into her soul for this
rock-and-blues album. Dedicated to the memory of her father, and to her
many foster siblings “especially my baby blue eyed brother Lance who
left my family long ago” Now and Zen delivers sensitive lyrics of love,
courage and heartbreak in Braun’s bell-pure voice, backed by the
extremely versatile James Bowers on guitar, bass, percussion, harmonica,
violin and keyboards (and cellist Corbin Keep on the “Jade” track).

Randeesh - Courage
Belizean-Canadian singer-songwriter Randeesh produces a unique
Canadian-Belizean-Caribbean sound in this debut CD. With roots in
reggae and a “Canadian calypso” heartbeat rhythm, he strives for a
“dance your troubles away” approach, with upbeat lyrics and great riffs
by Belizean trumpeter Norman Ysaguirre (Have to Try) and drummer Delhart
Mac. On the album’s final tracks, note the unique “Boom and Shine” or
“Bruckdown” rhythms of Belize.

Robert Service - His Own Voice
During the 1960s the radio show Call of the Northland was broadcast from Prince George, British
Columbia. At that time it was the practice to record a show in Vancouver and ship the tape to
Prince George for replay. The Cremation of Sam McGee was played during the show and The
Shooting of Dan McGrew was added to the tape after the show.
The tape of the show was kept by Jack Carbutt, a local broadcaster, and later passed along to a
fellow broadcaster, Bob Harkins. Bob kept the tape for many years and eventually gave it to the
Prince George Oral History Group in 2000. As there is still a high level of interest in the
poetry of Service, the group decided to reproduce the tape and make it available to the public.

Coast String Fiddlers - Look to the Mountains
Recorded at Roberts Creek Recording and St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, the deep nuances of cello and top knots of
soprano strings are clear and rich throughout (although the small ensemble pieces tend to excel in clarity over the massed
strings).
Try to keep from dancing, or reaching for a mug of real ale, during the Tribute to Robbie Burns or Country Girl and the
Hungarian Fiddler. But the ultimate, outstanding number has to be Highland Cathedral: fittingly recorded at St Bart’s,
the CSF’s signature piece. The sweet voices blend beautifully with orchestral treatments, climaxing with triumphal pipes and
drums; this is the Coast String Fiddlers at their very best.

Steve K - Headspace
Needless to say Steve K gets around. Not only has he performed all up and down the coast, he has even done it while travelling by kayak! Dedicated to the environment and the guitar, his songs reflect his feelings and personality. Supporting his CD ventures also help support environmental groups as a portion of the proceeds will go to help them in their causes.

Graham Walker - Jumpety Jump, Songs for children
Graham has been making songs and stories for children of the Sunshine Coast and the world
for many years. He is perhaps the best known local producer of albums thanks to the quality
of his work and the families that love it so much. This new CD obviously carries a lot of
songs for active children (as if there's any other kind). Fun and bouncy; a great delight.
|

Patricia Hammond - Le Charme
This beautifully talented mezzo-soprano has produced an exquisite CD containing such songs as
L'Adieux de l'Hotesse Arabe by Georges Bizet, and Ephitaphe by Tivadar Nachèz.
Patricia is backed up by the piano stylings of Zoë Mather.

Grant Waldman - Waldo wants to wake-up the world!!
Cool R&B make up this CD by a wonderful local guitarist. An IT professional, he has taken time
out to make a compilation of songs intended to "Wake Up the World!!" as far as the beauty and
wonder of the environment, and what we're doing to it. A great poet and songwriter, this
is his first CD voyage.

CD helpful. Feels Like Forever is a combination of violin instrumentals and love songs that are

Joe Stanton - Passenger Stanton
This CD, produced by Colin Nairne, features the skilled playing and songwriting of Joe Stanton.
His six-string guitar playing has made its way into the hearts of people all up and down the
Sunshine Coast, thanks to the numerous concerts he has performed at. Now his music can be
purchased on CD, and we know his songs will be enjoyed anywhere else in the world, a wonderful
British Columbian export.
|

B.C. - Over Time
B.C. is Barry Taylor - percussion and Chris Bernetchez - flutes. The music of B.C. is very
much focused in the present moment. We do not write our music, rather, the music writes itself,
or writes us. These sounds originate from where the past meets the future, in that huge,
miniscule moment of the "Now". We envision this music to support and nurture expression through
movement, dance, artistry, massage, or simply listening. Enjoy...

Coast String Fiddlers - All Strings Considered
Tapping feet, stomping feet, dancing feet; this is what is typically heard at an event done
by the Coast String Fiddlers Association, a non-profit association that aside from playing
concerts, also puts on workshops and related activities in order to promote the knowledge of
traditional fiddle playing. Everything is organized by volunteers, which adds a little more
heart and soul to the sound. Enjoy the music of this CD, and support a wonderful coastal
organization!

Ron Campbell - Pure Blues Guy
In the course of his life's journey, Ron Campbell discovered two things: his deep and abiding
love for classic Delta blues, and that his dream of performing has grown stronger with age.
Campbell brings an upbeat energy to the traditional Delta blues sounds of the 1930's, updating
the standards with his own fresh and original material. Ron's unique solo performance delivers
a bigger, high-energy, full-band sound as he combines fingerstyle acoustic guitar (Dobro and
12-string) with harmonica, vocals, and percussion. His beautifully-executed instrumentals,
moving lyrics and sly, dry humour have delighted audiences wherever he has played.
