Way up in a little corner of the Sunshine Coast is the village of Egmont. Most people rushing up for the ferry miss this community (and, ahem, the largest burger on the coast at the Backeddy Pub), with all it’s charm and sophistication.
Okay, yes, they do wear gumboots there, but they’re SOPHISTICATED gumboots.
One such rubber-booter is Anita Horovenko, a woman who can move very fast in PVC footwear, works hard to keep the community on the map, and to help out fellow quilters. She owns Three Ducks On A Roof, the Flapping Fish Gallery, and www.threeducksquilting.com, all of which show a great variety of locally made artwork, and readily available art supplies.
Her own personal creations tend to have an element of whimsy, which if you’ve ever met Anita you’d be able to recognize as an example of phenominal self-control. Her sense of humour has been put to very good use lately with the trials of expanding her businesses, and considering relocation.

Anita has worked hard at the help of such events like Egmont Days (probably not single-handedly what with all the burger-mad fools attending) where the publisher of this magazine came in second in the Skookumchuck Burger Eating Contest.
The area is beautiful with the nearby Skookumchuck rapids, one of the biggest saltwater rapids in the world, a short hike away, and some beautiful beachfront scenery. It is hard for her to leave Egmont, but as the Sunshine Coast is actually a pretty close-knit group it is doubtful she’ll be able to stay away long.
