INTO THE WILD
COFFEEHOUSE NIGHT AT THE WILD CAFE, 682 GIBSONS WAY
Article by Martin Dodds

The Wild Cafe in Gibsons not only has the best nanaimo bars on the Sunshine Coast, but they are also developing themselves as a great venue for local musical talent. February saw the second “Into the Wild” event, and in March will be seeing the third.

A monthly event featuring an “eclectic and unique sampling of local & imported talent”, February 8th’s performers were composed of Andy W Mason (busker/singer/songwriter/slick-talent), John “Tenbear” Thompson (a “roots” and bluegrass diva), and Bonar Harris (teacher and coastal goodguy-svengali) who helped put this interesting spotlight together.

Music, poetry and conversation are a great way to pass an evening, and with the addition of the Wild’s great food this event becomes a fantastic destination. The next edition of “Into the Wild” is Saturday March 8th, with Angie McAuley, Billie & Brian Corbett, and Fabrizio Alberico.

Typically the doors open at 7PM, with enough time to get snacks and drinks before the music starts at 8PM. There is a $10 cover charge, however the proceeds go toward the artists and help ensure they continue to spread their elegant tunes up and down the coast. For more information on this coming performance or participating in others, contact Bonar Harris through his MySpace page: www.myspace.com/bonar_songs

A musical venue with good food isn’t the easiest to find, whether on or off the Sunshine Coast. The Wild Bistro serves up some great chocolate treats and pastries, including a selection of gluten-free items. The toffee ganache bars have chocolate, cookie, and gooey toffee layers, and the ganache cups are made of chocolate with a small pocket filled with something reminicent of cheesecake. Of course treats aren’t the only things available as there are sandwiches using brown rice tortillas and salads that include toppings such as chili cashew chicken. Oh, and for the people willing to to try a pastry-less quiche they have those too. More information about their menu and events are available on their website, www.wildbistro.com
