Ursula Fritsch’s vibrant paintings/mixed media work on display at La Cabana Gallery in Sechelt display the
humour and exuberance that have become the Gambier Island’s hallmarks.
“Colour is the main thing, then texture – but colour is everything,” Ursula maintains – and through the medium
of collage she is able to indulge and combine both colour and texture in expressionist pieces of contemporary
art. Her aim - to gladden the heart with sensuous shapes, riotous colours and meandering lines – is achieved
with an abandonment into pure colour and an impression of a memory of a glimpse of water, sky, flowers,
trees.

“I like my paintings to be cheerful,” says Ursula. “Considering the horrors that are perpetrated on the planet, I
see no point in adding to the gloom by painting angst-ridden pictures.”
Ursula’s work is available at The Landing Gallery in Gibsons, La Cabana Gallery in Sechelt, and at her studio
on Gambier Island. A retrospective is posted on her website at www.ursulafritsch.ca
