Texada Island’s fourth annual “Jazz on the Rocks” festival combines the music of some of Canada’s finest jazz performers with the amazing acoustics of an outdoor stone amphitheatre.
Kicking off the weekend on July 27, The Tree Frog Lodge and Bistro at Gillies Bay hosts Kate Hammett-Vaughan Jazz at the Bistro. Come early for dinner; stay for an outstanding musical evening.
JazzMine attendees (Saturday, July 28) bring a chair and enjoy a day-long outdoor concert at one of British Columbia’s most unusual spots, a beautiful blue-green lake created by water accumulation in a historic limestone quarry. Performers include the Kate Hammett-Vaughan Trio, the Paul Keeling Trio, Tom Keenlyside with the Walter Martella Trio, and the Adonis Puentes Band.
Following the daylong JazzMne, a Jazz Lover’s Lounge at Blubber Bay (just a 1 min walk from the ferry landing) offers food, drink and a by-invitation jazz jam hosted by the Paul Keeling Trio.
The Texada Island Inn in Van Anda hosts a Blues and Jazz Brunch buffet Sunday from 11 am to 1 pm featuring Tom Keenlyside and Walter Martella. Attendance is limited at all events. Advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended.

BC Ferries provides regular service to and from Texada Island and Powell River, and JazzMine attendees are encouraged to leave their vehicles in Powell River (there is a municipal lot beside the ferry terminal) to avoid congestion on the ferries. An on-island shuttle service will be available for ferry walk-on passengers on the day of JazzMine (July 28) from the the 9:55 am and 11:10 am ferry runs from Powell River, and back to the ferry at day’s end.
