If you ever happen to travel over to the Sunshine Coast BC, one sight you’ll recognize are the many aux-naturalists. Whether on a beach or deep in the woods, nude people abound, so conservatives be sure to bring your blinders!
All right, so that’s an exaggeration. However it is just that sort of exaggeration needed to properly warn travelers to this warm region. By surfing the internet looking for beaches, one may come across the Sunshine Coast in a listing that for some odd reason makes a point of stating where you can get away with being naked. This “Clothing Optional Opportunities in BC” (COBC, their website) site lists beaches and lakes where nudity isn’t just an option, but sometimes a local custom:
"Situated right on the highway, tourists often stop to take a dip in Waugh Lake. The locals do the same...except without the clothing. I'm told it's the easiest way to tell the difference between the locals and the tourists!"
This was a submitted testimonial from one such tourist. With a nude lake right next to a long uneventful highway, it’s only fair the quiet grannies and uptight pastors come prepared.

The warmest waters North of Mexico are found on the Sunshine Coast, and that isn’t just lake water. Savary Island’s seawater is THE warmest, and since the island is almost all sand it makes an amazing Canadian tropical destination. Desolation Bay… oh let’s not open that door. But what person wouldn’t be tempted for a little skinny-dipping, since only a small percentage of coast beachfront is actually inhabited?
Public is also no safe resort from the nekked. In the summer time during Wiccan big-time events streakers can sometimes be glimpsed through the trees as they celebrate the Summer Solstice. The less said about “special” polar bear swims the better, at least for the sake of the males involved. This isn’t even including the copious quantities of nude art and stills.
The Sunshine Coast – laid bare… well, not quite. The nude don’t hide behind trees to jump out at travelers (most of the time). They don’t eat in restaurants and play golf. Gibsons, Pender Harbour, Powell River – these places have an amazing variety of views and events without flashers… which is more the pity according to some people.
