Powell River artist Alfred Muma’s Among Friends Studio (www.awmuma.com) will have a lot of new friends visiting this August. Along with about 50 other artists, Muma is participating in the fi rst ever self-directed Powell River Studio Tour August 27 and 28 (from 10 am to 5 pm daily).
The tour is free. Guide maps are available at Short Run Gallery, Nina’s Eclectic Emporium, and Stone Owl Pottery (all in the Powell River area) and Tug-Ghum Gallery in Lund. Numbers on the map correspond to studios, which will sport identifying signs (a stylized symbol representing land, water and sun).
Tour participants will need both days to visit the more than 28 galleries and studios. Carvers, potters, sculptors, multimedia artists and traditional painters are opening their home studios, or joining communal displays and demonstrations from Saltery Bay to Lund each day.

Along the way, some studios will offer refreshments for the weary, and at Muma’s on Sunday afternoon there will be live entertainment by Renaissance-style (and garbed) musicians The Broken Consorts. Other entertainment may be provided at other sites, and this will be announced in local media closer to the day.
The Tour is Muma’s brainchild, and he is astounded at the support from galleries and artists wanting to be included in the tour. Coordinating the event has been time-consuming but satisfying, he says.
Will it be an annual event? Absolutely! “I already have six participants signed up for next year!” he said.
